A Change of Pace in The Purloined Letter
I really enjoyed Poe's The Purloined Letter. After reading numerous stories about death, insanity, etc., it was nice to experience a different side of Poe's writing. Early on I noticed the use of dialogue was much more prevalent in this story, even though the narrator describes sitting in silence with his friends in the first paragraphs. The seems to be much less human interaction in his other works, and most of the interacts we do witness are either short or more action driven. I thought this story was incredibly clever, and Poe used suspense in a drastically different way than he does in many of his other stories. The element of mystery was engaging, and the cunning main character was a nice contrast from the traditionally grieving, borderline insane narrators that Poe depicts.
